23rd Medway Pride Day May 20th

It’s May! And for Medway that means Medway Pride!
The 23rd Annual Medway Pride Day, funded entirely by private donations and run by volunteers, will take place this year on Saturday, May 20th, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Medway Middle School. The event brings together residents, organizations and businesses to celebrate Medway.
“It’s about running into friends, making new ones, and having all the fun stuff we expect,” says Susan Alessandri, one of the Medway Pride organizers. Each year, she says, the group tries to add a new, interesting attraction to the list of tried-and-true favorite activities on the stage. This year, they’ve added the family-friendly Flying High Frisbee Dogs (flyinghighfrisbeedogs.com), a K-9 Frisbee act that has performed for the NFL, NBA, MLS, Minor League Baseball, ESPN, “Animal Planet,” NESN, college halftime sporting events, fairs, TV commercials and more, which will take place at 11:30 a.m.
“Sarah Stone, who’s running the whole show now, she’s been really great about keeping the stuff people love, but adding something new each year and increasing the level of engagement of the community,” says Alessandri.
Alessandri came aboard three years ago, at the same time as Stone, to help organize Medway Pride Day when the event was threatened to be cancelled a few years ago. Since then, volunteers have stepped up, she says, many of them younger volunteers who can stay involved for awhile.
As of Local Town Pages’ deadline, Medway Pride Day scheduled activities included:
• 10 a.m. Pledge and opening announcements
• 10:15 a.m. Bike Parade, preK through fourth grade
• 10:30 a.m. Dale Freeman—he is now a paraprofessional in the schools, musician, children’s music
• 11:30 a.m. Two of Us (Beatles Duo)
Flying High Frisbee Dog Show
• 12:30 p.m. Seishin Martial Arts
• 1 p.m. Step by Step Dance Studio
• 1:30 p.m. Josh Lekas Band, moved out to the west coast made it to the radio..
• 2:30 p.m. Medway High School Musicians
• 3:15 p.m. Matt Zajac (https://mattzajacmusic.com/)
• 4 p.m. Closing announcements
In addition to the scheduled events. Medway Pride Day will have tested favorites such as the bouncy houses, foam storm, pony rides, trackless train, and this year, once again, touch-a-truck.  There will also be a children’s tent and face painting, and Medway High School students will lead field games, with Medway Youth Football and Cheer offering demonstrations and games. 
Medway Pride Day Raffle buttons will be on sale prior to Medway Pride Day for $5 this month at Town Hall, TC Scoops and Charles River Bank. Only 300 will be sold. Prizes include gift cards to Restaurant 45, Swenson Granite, Shaw’s, Long Distance Tire, Shear Magic, Especially for Pets, a week of camp from Woodside Montessori, a sign from Morningside Designs, passes to the Mendon Drive-In donated by Charles River Bank, and many more.
Although Alessandri says Stone has gotten a lot of new people involved, “We always want new volunteers, people who can see this more into the future.”
It’s not too late to volunteer for the 23rd Annual Medway Pride Day. You can take on as much or as little as you have time for. Volunteers are still needed for the day of the event, a perfect one-time commitment.
