The Hopedale High School Alumni Association presented 25 scholarships totaling more than $51,000 at the Class of 2019 graduation ceremony on June 1st, along with $30,000 to 10 members of the Class of 2018 who are now in college. Alumni Vice President Karen Mazzarelli, who presented the 2019 awards, said the organization manages scholarships provided by families, annual donations, reunion classes, and from the estate of Glendon and Dorothy (Dutcher) Horne. The following is the list of scholarships.
The Philip Roberts Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $400 to a student who has enhanced the school with their musical ability was presented to Amy James-Quintana.
The Albert C. Sayles Scholarship in the amount of $400 to a student with an interest in Mathematics and who shows leadership on and off the athletic field was presented to Isabelle Doran.
The Henry L. Cyr Scholarship for Patriotism and Service to their school, community and to our Nation in the amount of $500 was presented to John Hevey.
The Shoghere Markarian Scholarships in the amount of $500 to students who have been active in band or chorus and who will attend a college of Music or minor in Music were presented to Isabella Baci and Amy James-Quintana.
The Class of 1969 Scholarship in the amount of $600 for academics, character and service was presented to Jenna Riley.
The Class of 1968 Scholarship in the amount of $625 for academics, leadership and personal achievement was presented to Christopher Ashby.
The Patrick Keaney Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $1,000 given to a student, with a financial need, whose skill as an artist has enhanced their school and community was presented to Jenna-Rose Oosterman.
The James S. Midgley and Elizabeth K. Midgley Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $1,000 to a student who demonstrates leadership qualities, initiative and accomplishment in the arts and sciences was presented to Caroline Merten.
The Regina Stare Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $1,000 to a student who plans to pursue a degree in education and is involved in community service and extracurricular activities related to helping others was presented to Caroline Allain.
The Alumni Association Scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each for academic achievement, leadership and service were presented to Matthew Costanza, Isabelle Doran, Kaitlynn Giombetti, Olivia Romano, and Gabriel Terando.
The Alumni Scholarship in the amount of $2,000 for academics, character and service was presented to Julia Lelio.
The Alumni Lucy Day Scholarship in the amount of $2,000 for academics, leadership and service was presented to Alex Reed.
The Glendon and Dorothy Horne Memorial Scholarships in the amount of $3,000 for academic excellence, leadership and service were presented to Mikayla Evans and Jackson Tahmoush.
The Glendon and Dorothy Horne Memorial Scholarships for academic excellence, leadership and significant personal achievement in the amount of $5,000 were presented to Matthew Crepeau, Ashley Fafard, Julia Hall, Lucia Rolo, Robert Siefring, and Zachary Tower.
Alumni Association scholarship committee member Kim Greenberg noted that $3,000 Horne Memorial Scholarships were presented to Class of 2018 graduates Taylor Andolina, Melissa Davis, Brittany Dupuis, Morgan Foley, Jennifer Holland, Jake Kracinovich, Elizabeth Swanson, Jacob Weaver, Joshua Weaver, and Tyler Welch. Ms. Greenberg said “The academic success these students have had in their first year of college shows that a Hopedale education has prepared them well for college and beyond” and added the Alumni also provided more than $40,000 in grants for classroom teachers in the three Hopedale Public Schools over the past year.
