Athlete from Millis’ Gymnastics Academy Earns 6th Place Finish in Floor at Junior World Championship

Matt Cormier, of Millis’ Massachusetts Elite Gymnastics Academy (MEGA) and his Coach Levon Karakhanyan were selected to the first Junior World Championships in Hungary after qualifying for the USA team at nationals. At the Elite National competition in Reno, Nevada, Cormier finished first in floor and vault and finished fourth in his all-around score. Levon Karakhanyan, Cormier’s coach at MEGA, was picked to be the assistant coach for team USA. Karakhanyan is a four time national gymnast from Armenia who opened his own gym in Millis in 2016 after coaching in the US and Brazil for over twenty years.
In Hungary, Cormier came in an impressive 21st for his all-around score out of over a hundred gymnasts around the world. Cormier made it to the individual event finals with an amazing 13.63 on the floor exercise. In the event finals, Cormier had another strong performance on the floor exercise on Saturday where he earned a 6th place finish.
Cormier and Team USA in a remarkable 7th place finish for the team award.
Cormier will be entering his senior year at Milton High School in the fall, and he will be looking forward to many college visits as he decides where he would like to attend for the next level of competition after his extraordinary experience at the Junior World Competition in Hungary.
