Hopedale’s Annual Winter Stroll - December 1:
The library will be open from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm. Stop by the Library to warm up with Hot Cider and cookies. We are also a stop on the Cocoa Crawl – be sure to taste our version and vote! We will have vendors in the library program room and author tables in the Reading Room area. There will be a make-and-take holiday craft in the Children’s Room.
Special New Year’s Raffle Basket – be sure to buy a raffle ticket for our New Year’s Party Basket! Filled with everything you need for a great party to bring in 2019! Gift cards for Shaws and the Hopedale Package Store! New Year’s party hats and glasses, assorted snacks, hand painted wine glasses, champagne and sparkling cider. Open the basket and let the party begin!!! Raffle tickets will be available during the Winter Stroll.
WiFi HotSpots - Enjoy high-speed Internet access anytime, anywhere–free!
We have recently acquired 2 WiFi HotSpots to loan to our patrons.
What is a HotSpot?
The HotSpot is an easy -to-use mobile device that offers Internet access over the Sprint network using WiFi technology. You can connect up to 10 Wi-Fi enabled devices to a BML HotSpot and get high-speed Internet virtually anywhere you can get Sprint mobile service. Our 2 HotSpots can be checked out for 2 weeks at a time and Bancroft Memorial Library patrons can place holds on them by calling the library. They will only be available to Bancroft Memorial Library cardholders in good standing. Stop by the library for more details.
Special Holiday Display: Beautiful decorations! That’s what makes the holidays special. Please come in and see our display case dressed in its holiday finest. A collection of White House Ornaments owned by Lizabeth Zyskowski will be on display for the public to enjoy from November 13th through January 2nd. We would like to thank Lizabeth for sharing these beautiful ornaments.

Helen Symonds Book Group
The Helen Symonds Book Group meets in the Library Program Room at 1:00 PM on the first Wednesday of every month. Everyone is welcome to join the group. Please call the library to request a copy of the book and come join the discussion.
This month’s meeting will be Wednesday, Dec. 5th at 1:00 PM. The book for discussion will be Circe by Madeline Miller.
Due to the busy holiday season, the next meeting will be on the second Wednesday, Jan. 9 at 1:00 pm. The book for discussion will be Before We Were Yours by Lisa Wingate. “Memphis, Tennessee, 1936. CookBook Club
It’s the holiday season!! Time for lights, gifts, friends and good food! Unless you’re a real Scrooge you have to admit that Christmas still makes you feel like a kid! Please join us on Monday, December 17th at 6:30pm when the Cookbook Club will be sharing a meal using recipes from the book, Better Homes and Gardens Christmas Cooking From the Heart. The book contains recipes from brunch to dinner including ideas for leftovers and gifts. What would the holiday be without a handmade ornament? Boring, that’s what! So we will also be making an ornament to take home. First time guests just come and enjoy! No need to cook! Please call the library to reserve a place at the table.
Wednesday Knitting & Crocheting Group Have you been knitting for a while but want to spend time with other crafters? Do you have a project that has been waiting for you to “get around to it? “Join the Knovel Knitters in the Trustee Room for an evening of knitting & crocheting every Wednesday night from 6:00pm until 7:45pm.

Wednesday, December 12, 2018, 6:30 pm A Creepy Christmas with Jeff Belanger
Please join us for a creepy evening! Remember the famous Christmas song which goes “There’ll be scary ghost stories and tales of the glories of Christmases long, long ago...”? Bellingham native Jeff Belanger brings the spooky back to the yuletide time of year with Creepy Christmas. From the origins of the holiday to the monsters and ghosts that lurk in its shadows, Jeff will take you on a multi-media journey of this haunting holiday. NOTE: This program is not for young children. To reserve your seat, please call the library or stop by the upstairs registration desk.
The Friends of the Hopedale Library meet the first Tuesday of each month. The December meeting will be on December 4th at 10:00 am in the Library Reference Room. Anyone interested in helping the Library and planning our adult programming is welcome to join.
The Friends of the Hopedale Library helps to support the Library by providing funds for equipment, materials and programs not covered by the regular operating budget. They offer adult events September- June and pay for the children’s summer reading and other programs. New members are always welcome! News from the Marjorie Hattersley Children’s Room
Storyhours will resume during the weeks of December 3 & 10, with holiday stories and crafts featured:
Once upon a Storytime for children 3 to 6 years old: Tuesdays at 3:15pm. This hour program will include stories, puppets, music and crafts.
Wonderful Wednesday Storytime for kindergarten and up: Wednesdays at 3:15pm. This hour program will include stories, puppets, music and crafts.
Preschool Storytime for children, age 2 to 4 years: Thursdays at 11am. This 45 minute program will include stories, fingerplays, puppets, nursery rhymes and music.
Registration is requested for all storytimes.
Saturday, December 1st - Hopedale’s Annual Christmas Stroll:
There will be make-and-take holiday crafts available in the Children’s Room, along with festive activities throughout the Library. The Library will be open extended hours (10am to 6pm).
Thursday, December 13th - Lunch with Santa, will take place at noon.
Parents and preschool children, age 2 and older are invited to join us for lunch, music, and a visit with our very jolly Guest of Honor. Library staff will provide lunch for the children. Parents should bring a small blanket to sit on, and voices ready for singing. Registration is required. Please call the Library by 6pm on Wednesday, Dec. 12, to let us know you are coming.
The Mitten Tree - Please stop by the Children’s Room with your donation to our Mitten Tree.
Each year, we welcome gifts of new or handmade mittens, hats, scarves, and gloves to be given to the Milford Food Pantry.
Thursday, December 27th 1pm- 2:30pm - Pizza and Game Break - For parents who need a little quiet time, and kids looking for something to do during winter vacation. Children age 5 thru 12 are invited to come to the library, munch on pizza, and play some of our collection of board games. We have games for all ages, including several new ones. There is no charge for this event, but registration is requested. Please call the Library at (508-634-2209) for information or to register.
