For the third consecutive year, the Norwood community, along with their local Elks Lodge #1124, have come together to give back to the town's first responder's.
On Sunday, September 10, the Red & Blue Barbecue Board of Directors and Elks members held a town wide barbecue for the Police Station and Fire Station as well as their respective families to show their support and pride for all they do keeping the town of Norwood safe.
Approximately 70 police and fire personnel brought their spouses and families down to the Elks lodge to enjoy fresh grilled hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken, and corn, as well as all of the sides, including potato salad, pasta salads, chips, and desserts by the dozens.
With Elk member Bill Lloyd on the grill, food was cooked fresh all afternoon to accommodate the different shifts of each station as well as those responders out on calls. Elk's manager Brian Fagan ensured everything ran smoothly, even providing great entertainment with the setup of several corn hole games. The competition was great!
The foundation of this barbecue each year is provided by the town people itself. All items are donated. The Board of Directors of the event provide a town wide sign-up sheet and the community takes it from there. Everything from the home cooked salads and desserts, to the supermarket gift cards, to purchasing fresh meat; all are donated by the Norwood people. As dozens of community members sign up to assist throughout the day, this is a completely volunteer-run occasion.
The Elks Lodge #1124 had the privilege of donating member's efforts and the facility to show their support in such a great cause. With over 130 children and adults fed, this year's barbecue was a great success yet again.
Also, a special thanks to co-chairs of the event, Kelly Benson
and Bill Lloyd.
