Celebrate Holliston’s Board of Directors are pleased to announce the 2016 Celebrate Holliston Citizens of Year Recipients: Theresa Lamkin and Stephen Bradford.
Theresa has been in a resident in Holliston for over 23 years and is the mother of two daughters and a son, who she considers her “greatest accomplishments.”
Theresa has been a member of the Celebrate Holliston Board for 15 years (including as president, and creator of the sponsorship program). She served on the Historical Society Board for 5 years (Founder of the Taste of Holliston), Newcomers for 7 years (Founder of the Annual Newcomers Halloween Parade and Holliston’s House Tours); Founding member of the Holliston’s Food Truck Festival (which benefited Holliston’s American Legion) and member of the Friends of the Holliston Police Station (which worked to help promote the need for the new police station). She also served on the Holliston Souper Bowl Committee for 3 years, and was Assistant Producer to HCAT’s Holliston’s Happenings.
Focusing on her children, Theresa taught CCD at St. Mary’s Church, Volunteered for Pop Warner, and helped with numerous Holliston School Fundraisers, including the PTSA Auction and Senior Class Auction.
Stephen Bradford moved back from California in 1992 and retired from Siemens Healthcare in Sept 2011 after 34 years. His heart has always been making sure that Holliston’s Veterans are recognized and appreciated.
Stephen has been active in the American Legion for over 10 years and has worked his way up to become the Commander in 2015. His tireless efforts to recognize Holliston’s Veterans include: a display at Town Hall that recognizes the oldest living veteran; the installation of a POW/MIA Remembrance Chair display at Town Hall, working on the Memorial Day Parade for 7-8 years (and is this year’s committee head) and coordinating the Annual 9/11 Awards (to honor those who go above and beyond) for the last 6 years. He also serves on the Thanks to Yanks Board of Directors.
Working closely with fellow veteran Bobby Blair (a past Citizen of the Year Recipient), Stephen organized and executed the annual Veteran’s Day Parade and Luncheon. He helped bring the MA Fallen Heroes Memorial to Holliston in June 2012 (working alongside Representative Dykema). And in 2016, he worked closely with a small group of volunteers to create the First Annual Food Truck Festival (proceeds helping the Holliston’s American Legion).
Aside from working on Veteran’s issues, Stephen became very involved with the Holliston Food Pantry beginning in 2011. He enjoys his regular shift with founding member Sylvia Stickney (another former Citizen of the Year recipient), but can also be found stocking shelves early every Saturday morning. He has served as the Pantry’s correspondence secretary, recording secretary and will become the Food Pantry’s new president this October. He has volunteered for their Souper Bowl as well as their Pasta Dinners with Santa for the last three years. He believes in the Pantry’s motto “Neighbors helping Neighbors.”
Theresa and Stephen were honored at Celebrate Holliston’s Field Day on Saturday September 17th during the opening ceremonies.
