Dean College Theatre majors Patrick Surillo ’16 and Sean Kaiser ’16 were honored during the Kennedy Center American College Theater (KCACTF) Region I Festival held January 26-29, 2016 in Danbury, CT.
In January and February of each year, regional festivals showcase the finest of each region’s entered productions and offer a variety of activities, including workshops, symposia, and regional-level award programs.
Patrick Surillo presented his Stage Manager Book from the recent Dean College production of Hot L Baltimore. After several interviews with stage management professionals, he was named the Region Stage Manager Finalist and will represent Dean College at the Kennedy Center American College Theater (KCACTF) National Festival in Washington, D.C. taking place April 11-16, 2016.
“We are thrilled that Patrick was chosen to showcase his work at Nationals,” said Theatre Program Director Daniel Kozar. “Patrick’s talent is a testament to the type of students that our theatre program at Dean can produce.”
Fellow theatre major Sean Kaiser received a first runner up standing for his work with the Maltby Musical Theatre Initiative. With over forty participants and nineteen finalists in the category, Sean placed in the top three.
“Sean is an outstanding theatre student,” said Kozar. “It is amazing to see both of these students place at the top their categories at such a prestigious event.”
The KCACTF is a national theater program involving 18,000 students from colleges and universities nationwide which has served as a catalyst in improving the quality of College Theater in the United States. The KCACTF has grown into a network of more than 600 academic institutions throughout the country, where theater departments and student artists showcase their work and receive outside assessment by KCACTF respondents.
