The Franklin Garden Club will feature a presentation on “Good Bugs and Bad Bugs” at its Tuesday, March 3 meeting. The meeting will be held at the Franklin Senior Center, 10 Daniel McCahill Street, Franklin, from 7 – 9 p.m., beginning with a social time at 6:30 p.m. It is open to the public at no charge.
Common beneficial and pest insects that gardeners encounter in New England will be highlighted. Their habits and lifecycles will be discussed in terms of how their presence affects the success of a garden year.
Bonnie Power, a certified Master Gardener, will be the featured speaker. Power has a master’s degree in zoology from Boston University and taught college science courses for more than twelve years before leaving teaching for industry. After retiring, she enrolled in courses at Garden in the Woods in Framingham and became a wild flower tour guide. In addition to being certified as a Master Gardener, in 2019, she completed the requirements for certification in horticulture at New England Plant Trust. A contributor to the Massachusetts Master Gardeners Association (MMGA) Facebook site, including a page on insect identification, Power also volunteers on the MMGA pH testing team.
The Franklin Garden Club is a member of the Garden Club Federation of Massachusetts.
