After a 1-year hiatus, local Hopedale residents Robert Jackson and Adam Fumia are pleased to announce that HopedaleMovieNight, which screens free movies in the Hopedale town park, is returning for 2017 and is set to launch a full Summer season of movies. Residents of Hopedale and surrounding communities are welcome.
In 2014, Jackson and Fumia started the program in beautiful Hopedale Town Park to enable families of Hopedale to gather and enjoy a movie in a relaxing, family friendly setting. “We liked the idea of having a fun, appropriate activity where our friends and neighbors, both young and old, could come and enjoy a Summer evening together. What better way than to watch a movie under the stars?” said Fumia. Together with sponsorship and financial support from the Friends of Historic Hopedale, during each of the 2014 and 2015 seasons, 5 popular, family-friendly movies were shown throughout the Summer to the delight of ever increasing crowds. “This program couldn’t have gotten off the ground without the support of the FOHH. They believed in the idea and their generosity enabled us to cover the licensing fees for the movies at the start, and have committed to doing so this year as well. We can’t thank them enough.” said Jackson. In 2015 the Hopedale Girl Scouts joined the event and offered free snacks.
Last year the program was put on hold due to some permitting challenges. Fortunately, thanks to the direct intervention and support of the Hopedale Park Commission those issues have been resolved and the program is pleased to announce that the 2017 Summer season schedule is in place and fully funded. “The Park Commission really stepped up and saved the event,” said Jackson “and we are fortunate and thankful to have their support alongside the FOHH. It really has become a community effort to put on this event.”
The 2017 Summer season is being billed as a kid-friendly / family-focused event for the residents of Hopedale. However, anyone from any community is always welcome and encouraged to attend. All movies shown by HopedaleMovieNight are either G, PG, or PG-13 rated and appropriate for families.

“Mrs. Doubtfire”
All movies will be shown at the Hopedale Town Park and will begin at dusk. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own chairs, blankets and snacks. Alcohol and smoking materials are not allowed. If there is a threat of rain 12 hours in advance, the show will be delayed until the following Friday. Updates will be available at the event website or on Twitter @hdalemovienight.
HopedaleMovieNight is a community event created for the cultural benefit of the residents of Hopedale, and is supported by co-sponsors Friends of Historic Hopedale and Hopedale Parks Commission. Generous donations of time, talent and equipment have been given in support of the event by a diverse group of supporters, including David Sprowl, Hopedale Community House, Sherrill House, Inc., Hopedale Girl Scouts and Boy Scout Troop 1 Hopedale.
