Volunteers Needed—and Homeowners Encouraged to Plant Flowers
WALKING TOUR ROUTE
Have you noticed more pops of color throughout town this year? Holliston in Bloom is preparing to host over 200 people from around the country on a walking tour downtown and on buses traveling through Holliston on Saturday afternoon, October 7, 2017.
In late June, the Big Border in front of the Congregational Church was loaded with a myriad of blooms from the fifty new hydrangea shrubs, existing Asiatic lilies and daylilies, and hundreds of new perennials and annuals. Upright planters, the self-watering planters, and new self-standing window boxes were set up by Holliston in Bloom.
The DMP installed new window boxes along fencing along Route 16, Smith Row, Central Street, and both Arch and Exchange Street bridges on the Rail Trail. Mayor Bobby Blair also added his floral touch to many locations downtown in front of stores and Blair Square as well as hundreds of annuals planted in whiskey barrels and hanging baskets. Deb and John Moore added hundreds of blooms to planters at each hole, Anthony’s on the Green and along the border at Pinecrest Golf Club.
If you live along any of these streets, we are hoping you will join us in planting some extra flowers and/or add fall decorations to your front yards this year:
Washington Street near Central Burial Ground, Town Hall, Congregational Church and Library
Green Street to/from Goodwill Park
Exchange Street
Smith Row
Central Street near Fire Station and municipal lot
Union Street
School Street
Arch Street up to Rail Trail
Water Street
Hollis Street (by vehicle) up to Pinecrest Golf Club, Community Garden
Oak Street
Woodland Street past 8 Arch Bridge
NO GREEN THUMB NEEDED FOR THESE VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
