Holliston in Bloom is gearing up to host the America In Bloom symposium this year, taking place in Holliston from October 5-7, and volunteers will be needed.
“We’ll be trying to get people to volunteer,” says Cherry Fenton. “We’ll need all different types of people, for anywhere from two to four hours of their time. “Judges and attendees will be visiting Holliston for an afternoon and will view six to eight different areas of town.
Some of the areas volunteers are needed are:
Tour guides for a walking tour of Holliston on Saturday, October 7 who can point out the significance of various sites. Some will wear period costume.
People to help in advance with planting and watering flowers over the summer
Volunteers for the registration table at the Sheraton Tara in Framingham for when visitors come
People who are willing to share local information for people who are from all over the country
Volunteers on the bus (Fenton notes the group would very much like to find outgoing actor-types for this job.)
People to help decorate around town, putting up cornstalks and pumpkins and the like
Volunteers to help for a luncheon, for serving and cleanup
And more.
“We need many hands,” says Fenton, who says that Holliston in Bloom members not only want to volunteer, but they also want to take part in the symposium. “There are some great speakers, and it’s great to meet people from other towns and is so much fun to see the slides.”
Holliston residents are urged to stop by the Holliston in Bloom table to learn more about the symposium and how they can take a role in making the town shine.
“And if you can’t volunteer, we appreciate donations, “says Fenton.
If you can’t make the table, you can visit hollistoninbloom.org to sign up on their website.
