The Holliston Business Association has two new local businessmen taking the reins this year –co-presidents Rich Powers, of The Henry Studio, and Andrew Carini, of Our Town Publishing.
“I’ve been a member for about 10 years,” says Carini. “It’s helped me increase exponentially in the town of Holliston. Businesses know who I am and what I do, and think that’s the most important part of membership in this association – getting your name out in the community.”
Powers and Carini stepped up to the plate with new ideas for the group. First among those ideas was a fundraiser for the organization. Carini will be manning a table at the upcoming Celebrate Holliston to sell Old Time Calendars of Holliston, with historical pictures.
“It’s a beautiful calendar, and at least three of the photographs have never been published before,” says Carini, who will sell the calendars, which will feature a listing of all HBA members and discounts to over 40 Holliston businesses, for $10 apiece. ”We can thank the Holliston Historical Society for providing photographs. Profits are going to benefit the Holliston Business Association,” says Carini.
Another new activity planned for his year is a large business initiative.
“Holliston has at least 1,000 employees working in some big companies,” says Carini. The HBA is working on a large business initiative to showcase to the employees of the larger businesses in town what Holliston businesses have to offer.
“We want these employees, who may live outside of Holliston, to utilize our products and services rather than just leaving town every day,” says Carini. “It’s not just a total bedroom community.”
The Holliston Business Association invites local businesses to join. The organization both supports local businesses and enables them to give back to the local community. Its regular activities include:
town events such as the Holiday Stroll, occurring on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, and the Spring Festival, occurring in May;
maintaining a “Community Action Fund” to assist local families in need;
awarding scholarships to Holliston High School seniors each May;
networking with other local business professionals through monthly meetings and/or business open houses.
Upcoming programs for members are generally held on the third Thursday of each month from 11:45 – 1:30 p.m., offering ample time for networking among your peers. The first program is September 28thth at Casey’s Crossing. Shannon Giordano of Serendipity Social Media will let attendees understand the impact of social media marketing on building their band online and generating the best ROI and repeat business.
The second program, in October, on connecting and communicating with millennials, presented by Inside Out Communications, will take place at Anthony’s on the Green at Pinecrest Golf Course.
“Millenials don’t communicate and they don’t listen to marketing (in a traditional way),” says Carini.
Membership dues for the 2017/2018 year is just $50, and you can find out more at www.hollistonbusinessassociation.com.
