Hopedale, MA – Over fifty students from Hopedale’s Memorial Elementary School performed in an original musical based on the classic fairy tale “Sleeping Beauty”. The two nearly sold-out performances, on January 18 and 19, were presented at the Hopedale Jr Sr. High School Auditorium. The play was written by writer/director Chelsea Cook with music by Edward Barton.
The play featured original songs, spectacular special effects and lighting, and a colorful set. The cast was full of energy throughout the performance, and kept the audience engaged through the final bows.
This was the third dramatic installment from Cook featuring some of Hopedale’s finest young theatrical talent. Cook was credited by many of the cast, crew, and parents with consistently being able to create a performance that is fun to watch, and an experience for the students that they are likely to remember for a lifetime.
In a letter following the performances addressed to the cast and parents, Cook said, “I have worked with many different schools and theater groups over the years and I still stand by what I said my first year working in this town: this community is the most loving and supporting place I have ever been. I am so lucky to have had the opportunity to be a part of it. Thank you so much for all your kindness”.
For Hopedale residents who want to see more home-grown dramatic talent, the Hopedale Jr. Sr.High School will be presenting Mary Poppins in March at the school.
