Build a Better World summer reading for everyone – help us build a village. Stop by the library and pick up a “village house” to color and assemble. Work here or take it home and bring in later. We will create be creating a village in the Reference Room. Take a time out to sit and color – our coloring sheet is on the display table in front of the Circulation Desk.

Bancroft Memorial Library has its own app, available from Google Play or the App Store. Search the catalog, place holds, read the newsletter, and get information on upcoming events, right from your mobile device.

Sign up for weekly emails featuring all new items added to the library collection! Ongoing Monthly Library Events
Helen Symonds Book Group
The book group does not meet in July or August. Book discussions will resume September 6 at 1:00 pm.
The Helen Symonds Book Group meets in the Library Program Room at 1:00 PM on the first Wednesday of every month during the school year. Everyone is welcome to join the group. Please call the library at (508) 634-2209 to request a copy of the book and come join the discussion.
Our September book will be “The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks” by Rebecca Skloot. Summary from the C/WMARS catalog: This book “Documents the story of how scientists took cells from an unsuspecting descendant of freed slaves and created a human cell line that has been kept alive indefinitely, enabling discoveries in such areas as cancer research, in vitro fertilization, and gene mapping.”

Coloring Tuesday
Coloring is for adults, too! Join us for a relaxing time coloring in the Reference Area of the Library on Tuesday, July 11 and Tuesday, July 25 from 10-11 AM. We will provide colored pencils and coloring sheets or you may bring your own.

CookBook Club
Roasted vegetables enjoyed so many ways! Snacks, soups, tarts, main dishes! July is the month of the exploring the possibilities! Please join us on Monday, July 24th at 6:30pm for our Cookbook Club. We will be enjoying the bounty of summer vegetables in ways you may not have thought possible using the book The Roasted Vegetable by Andrea Chesman. First time guests come and enjoy! No need to cook! Please call the library to at 508-634-2209 to reserve a place.

Park Passes
The Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation invites you to explore 450,000 acres of parks, campgrounds, forests, mountains and beaches right in your own backyard. The MASSPARKS PASS is available at the Library and provides free parking at MassParks facilities that charge a parking fee. Check out www.mass.gov/dcr for a full listing of MassParks locations. Wednesday Knitting & Crocheting Group
Have you been knitting for a while but want to spend time with other crafters? Do you have a project that has been waiting for you to “get around to it? “Join the Knovel Knitters for an evening of knitting & crocheting every Wednesday night from 6:00 until 7:45pm

Friends of the Hopedale Library Meeting
The Friends of the Hopedale Library meetings are held on the first Tuesday morning of each month. Their next meeting will be in the Library Reference Room on September 12 at 10:00 am. Anyone interested in helping the Library and planning our adult programming is welcome and encouraged to join them.
The Friends of the Hopedale Library was founded in 1983. They work with the Library staff and Trustees to support the Library by providing funds for equipment, materials and programs not covered by the regular operating budget. They offer adult events September- June, pay for the children’s summer reading and for other programs. New members are always welcome! Children’s Room
Build a  Better World, the 2017 Summer Reading Program continues through July at Bancroft Memorial Library, with a variety of programs for young people of all ages. 
High Tech Workshops will offer Forensics Fun on Thursday, July 6 at 1pm and 2pm.  This unique program will include hands-on activity, as kids learn the techniques used by crime scene investigators to solve a crime.  This program is open to children in Grades 1 through 8.
Hopedale’s own Karina James will lead two Pressed Flower Art workshops for youngsters in Grade 4 and older, as well as their parents.  We know that Nature has fashioned flowers to give us great, but short-lived pleasure.  Join us in capturing that pleasure by creating lovely pressed flower designs, using flowers, leaves and grasses in a variety of items.  All materials will be provided.  These workshops will be presented on Monday, July 10 and Monday, July 17.
Youngsters in Grade 5 and older are invited to take part in Lotions and Potions on Tuesday, July 11 at 3pm.  We will use natural ingredients to create a variety of health and beauty products for young adults.  All materials will be provided.
One of our favorite people, Jason Julian, (from Music Together), returns on Wednesday, July 19 at noon with Teddy Bear Picnic. Children of all ages and their parents are invited for an afternoon of music and teddy bear fun.  Bring a picnic and a blanket to the Community House lawn, and join in the merriment.
A blizzard is coming!  On Monday, July 24, our special guest from the Museum of Science will lead two hands-on workshops for Children in Grades 1 through 7. In Blizzards: Outwit the Elements, participants will be asked to engineer a treehouse to withstand high winds, and save snowboarders from a wild mountain avalanche.  With two exciting activities, kids will have a chance to plan, build and test their designs against the forces of Nature.
Young Adults are invited to join is for an afternoon of Tie Dye Fun on Tuesday, July 25th, beginning at 3pm.  Young people in grades 5 and older are invited to let their creative juices flow, as they choose their colors and create a tee they’ll be proud to wear.  T-shirts will be provided.

Join us on Wednesday, July 26 for Creation Station, a chance to take part in building and engineering through creative play.  Participants will use a variety of unique building materials that will spark creativity and critical thinking skills while encouraging teamwork....and having fun!  There will be an 11am session for children age 3-6, and a 12:30 session for children age 7-10.
Join us for a picnic on Monday, July 31 at 5:30pm (pizza will be provided by the Friends of the Library, donations of salads and desserts are appreciated) on the Library lawn.  Then celebrate Songs and Stories to Build a Better World with multi-talented Davis Bates.  We will enjoy a wealth of traditional and contemporary folk songs from New England and around the world with this award winning singer and storyteller.  Be prepared to sing, move, and clap your hands! There will even be a lesson on how to play music with kitchen spoons, and a guest appearance by Bingo the dancing wooden dog.
Throughout the month, other activities will include Critter Crafts, a weekly program for children in grades K-3, with stories and crafts featuring animals of all kinds; PreSchool Storyhour, for children age 3-6, with stories, music, puppets, and crafts; and Reading Buddies, a weekly chance for beginning readers (grades 1-3) to meet with a Junior High  “buddy” to share reading time.
Theatre Camp will be held during the week of July 17.  Children in Grade 4 and older are invited to take part in presenting The Princess and the Pea. Our always talented and enthusiastic crew will act, create scenery and costumes, and present the play for parents and friends.  This program will take place Monday through Wednesday for two hours each day, and Thursday for three hours.  Volunteers to help out are very welcome!
Please check our calendar for other activities, such as Lego Challenge, Bingo Fun, and Wii Games with Ryan.  Also, be on the look-out for our August activities:  Storytime with Dora the Explorer on Tuesday, August 1 at 11am (don’t forget your camera for photos!) and our Summer Finale, the wonderful Hampstead Players, presenting Beauty and the Beast, for all ages, on Thursday, August 3 at 3pm, at the Community House, followed by our annual Ice Cream party, hosted by the Friends of the Library.
Throughout the month, participants in our Build a Better World reading program, will continue to earn gift coupons as they reach weekly reading goals, as well as taking part in a variety of raffles for fun prizes.
