The Hopedale Boosters are pleased to announce they will be sponsoring the 9th Annual Hopedale Blue Raider 5K Run/Walk on Sunday, May 7th. In addition to this traditional event the Hopedale Boosters are adding a Kids Fun Run and Family Fun Day.
This event is the biggest fund raiser for the Hopedale Boosters. The money earned is used to support the student athletes at Hopedale Junior/Senior High School as well as other student activities like the year book and After-Prom Party. The golf tournament they have co-sponsored in the past will not be held this year making this event so important to continuing the donations to the student body the Hopedale Boosters have made in the past.
The race will be on a Sunday this year to allow more runners to participate. The Hopedale Boosters have added the Kids Fun Run and Family Fun Day to include the whole community in this great day. The festivities will kick off at 11:30 with booths by local vendors and community and school organizations. The Hopedale Boosters President, Deb Siefring, said think of it as a mini Day in the Park held at the High School. In addition to the booths there will be a variety of raffle prizes to be won. At 12:30 the Kids Fun Run, for those 13 and under, will begin. The 5K Run/Walk will start at 1:00. All runners will get an official race bib. The awards for the top finishers in various age categories will be presented starting at 2:00, the raffle prize winners will be announced, and the booths will be open until 2:30.
The Blue Raider 5K Run/Walk is done in memory of the late Coach Larry Olsen. Coach Olsen was a highly decorated runner and the Hopedale Girls’ Cross Country Coach. He is greatly missed by Hopedale and the entire running community.
5K runners/walkers may register for the race by going to www.active.com by April 21st to receive a race t-shirt. Final date for on-line registration is May 4th. Runners/walkers may register on race day, but are highly encouraged to preregister to avoid long lines. Kids can also be registered at www.active.com by May 4th. Kids will receive an official race bib. The 5K registration fee is $20 for 14 and older, $15 for 13 and under. The Kids Fun Run is $10.00.
Any vendors, community or school organizations looking to host a booth should contact Hopedale Boosters at hopedaleboosters.org. The fee for a booth is $25 for applications received by April 14th. There will be a $10 late fee for applications received after this deadline.
Any person, organization, or company wishing to donate raffle items can do so by contacting Race Director Brian McCarthy at hopedale5k@gmail.com. Raffle item sponsorship will be duly noted on a sign and announced at the raffle drawing at the conclusion of the race.
