Many residents were likely disappointed at the close of the Norwood Farmer's Market in October, but fear not, a new market has been initiated this winter and it brings the tasteful, locally grown produce directly from the farms to the table. The Norwood Winter Market is held on Saturdays, at the VFW Hall, 193 Dean St., 10 a.m.-2p.m. According to Norwood Farmers Market Manager Laurie Shea, the decision to provide a winter market came directly from the vendors, the Saturday schedule, from Norwood residents.
"Over the past four year I have been the market manager, the single biggest complaint/question has been, 'Can't you have the market on Saturday so all of us who work can take part?'" Shea said.
Shea responded to the feedback and considers the new project a win-win for everyone. Many of the summer produce vendors returned for the winter, and a variety of new booths also joined. Some of those new merchants are offering fresh food items but the Saturday date also opened the market to crafters and individual businesses who couldn't commit to a weekday event.
"When a few vendors asked about a winter market I thought it would be a great test to see if more residents would support it on the weekend," Shea said.
As mentioned, the Winter Market will continue to offer the same great variety of fresh produce and vegetables, but visitors will also discover other enticing food offerings and crafters displaying their goods. The winter market will include Oakdale Farm, Foxboro Cheese, Jordan Bros. Seafood, Vermarji International, Tea is the Way, Chrissy's Crumble No-Grain-Ola, Linda Joyce Jewelry, Kave Rock Alpaca Farm and Refined Repurposed and Cards by Julie. She is continually welcoming new farms, vendors, crafters and businesses to join the event which will provide an eclectic mix of and fresh perspective on the event every week.
"My goal for the Norwood Winter Market is to create a mix of a farmers Market and a craft fair," Shea stated. "All crafters are welcome."

Shea chose the VFW Hall on Dean St., for its convenient location and ample parking, but also thought the organization's Saturday Meat Raffle would benefit visitors attending both events. Below are dates for the Norwood Winter Farmer's Market. What a great way to spend a Saturday!
