It's Norwood's version of the legendary tv show 'Battle of the Network Stars.' Instead of television personalities, however, local residents will tackle Norwood's own version of the quirky obstacle course! The event will take place on Saturday, June 17, Norwood High School. For the afternoon, the Mustangs' football field will be transformed into an innovative, challenging, and often quirky, obstacle course.
This year, this annual fundraiser will benefit the Bay State Animal Cooperative. The Norwood-based organization is a non-profile, volunteer run cat rescue group looking to raise funds to open a local adoption center.
The challenge will consist of 'Dream Teams,' consisting of 10 members, that will compete in head-to-head contests. The course will include 10 stages of physical and entertaining obstacles for each team to maneuver and the fastest team of the day will be crowned The Ultimate Challengers! Participants will range from 16 year olds to adults, and each team will be required to submit $1,000 to enter the race. A $300 non-refundable deposit is required by June 10, to secure their spot in the event. To sign up, visit www.baystateanimals.org.
There are other ways to join in the fun beside running the obstacle course. Any fundraiser needs volunteers to ensure its success, and Shea is currently recruiting some helpful hands to assist on the sidelines with the event. Interested parties should contact Shea at
laurieshea@live.com.
Monetary donations will also be accepted the day of the event. In lieu of admission, spectators are also encouraged to bring dry and canned food and cat litter to help support the felines in feral colonies and in foster care through BSAC.
All money raised from the event will be donated directly to the Bay State Animal Cooperative (BSAC). BSAC is a 501 (c) 3 charitable/non-profit organization that practices a no-kill philosophy while providing resources and services to reducing animal overpopulation and unnecessary suffering for companion, stray, relinquished and feral animals.
It also works with other humane organizations, local municipalities and the community to develop and implement programs, including low-cost spay/neuter assistance, medical care, trap-neuter-return, community outreach and events, sheltering, adopting, educational services and a sanctuary.
The BSAC is funded exclusively by donations and operates entirely by the works of selfless volunteers. For more information on the Bay State Animal Cooperative, visit their website at www.baystateanimals.org. Donations are greatly appreciated and can be forwarded to: Bay State Animal Cooperative, 47 Windsor Rd., Norwood, MA 02062. Donations are also accepted through their Go Fund Me page which can be accessed through the website.
Norwood residents are exceptional in supporting their local community and this fundraiser is another valuable example how neighbors reach out and give their time and money to aid one another. Of course, in true Norwood fashion, the day will also prove to be an entertaining and fun event for the entire family! Mark the calendar for Saturday, June 17, gather the kids, family and friends and enjoy an afternoon that demonstrates Norwood's true generous spirit!
