Article Body:

Lion’s Heart, a national nonprofit teen service organization for teens in grades 6 through 12, has just completed its 2nd year in Franklin. In this short time, the members of Lion’s Heart have spent over 3,100 hours serving their community. Lion’s Heart’s mission states that our members serve their community in fun and meaningful ways. Franklin
members have done just that. They have spent countless hours collecting and sorting donations for the Franklin Food Pantry. They have spent time serving food and drinks to the guests at the Franklin Senior center. They have cooked for the homeless ministry of Boston, and collected donations for the Birthday Wishes Foundation. They have cleaned up streets and parks throughout Franklin to celebrate Earth Day, and they have helped with the SNETT Rail Trail clean up in Bellingham. Some of our members serve their school as a class representative or class officer. Many are involved in programs that encourage inclusiveness and friendship, like Best buddies or Amigos.
The Franklin chapter of Lion’s Heart currently has 45 active members. This year, nine of them were awarded Presidential Volunteer Service Awards that come signed from the President of the United States. These awards are based on number of hours served. This year, three gold awards were given to the following members: Ellie Leavitt, Kevin Kane and Luc Boudreau. One silver award was given to Trevor Donahue and five members received the Bronze award: TJ Remillard, Mosi Bullers-Shah, Dominik Gilar, Connor Hill and Akash Shetty. Every year, Lion’s Heart also awards one recipient from every group the Torch Bearer award. This highest honor is the kind awarded by peers. Group members vote for the Member who demonstrates exceptional dedication to the community. This year the following members received a Torch Bearer award…Ellie Leavitt (2018GB), Kevin Kane (2018BB), Chris Duchak (2020BB), and Luc Boudreau (2021BB).
