As their first year as a congregation comes to a close, Milestone Church has grown from a handful of believers to a team of staff and around 70 regular Sunday morning attendees. The church body, a diverse mix of ages, races, and backgrounds, is now transitioning from 179 Boden Ln. to 217 West Central St. Moving into a larger space will allow Milestone to serve the Metrowest community in new ways in the coming years.
Service First
Before its official launch in October 2016, Milestone had been a hope in the hearts of one couple for the past decade. The pair began praying for a new church in Natick, and Jay Mudd, now Milestone’s pastor, met them and heard their vision in 2015. Shortly after, he moved from Florida to Massachusetts with his wife and kids.
“For the first year, I focused on learning my new community,” Mudd said. “Our family really enjoyed Natick and the surrounding towns, and spent time at many of the town activities. We met so many people and built some great relationships in the first year.”
They began hosting events such as movie nights at the Natick Community-Senior Center and the Natick Common as a way to serve others in town before ever holding a church service. As a fully-fledged church, Milestone continues to organize service activities, such as providing coffee for morning commuters at the Natick train station, and raising money for struggling local families.
“At the core, our heart is not just to live here, but to be actively involved personally, and within the context of a local church. We want to continue to sacrificially serve our community when opportunities present themselves,” Mudd explained.
New Space In the Works
The church’s current location is known as the Cole Center, a hub for multiple Natick organizations that many residents utilize. The center has been a place of stability for Milestone, allowing them to have Sunday services featuring sermons, worship, fellowship, and childcare.
“The Cole Center and their staff have been amazing,” Mudd said. “We consider it an honor that the town was willing to allow us to rent their space.”
Construction is now taking place in the building they will soon be renting. “There will be a new elevator, an updated kids’ area, and a meeting area for more than 200 people,” Mudd described. “We look forward to having a space that we can use to continue to support and invest into our community.”
Stay Up-To-Date
Milestone plans to be moved in by August. Sunday services at the Cole Center will be held as normal at 9:30 a.m. through July, and after the move, they will start at 10 a.m.
Members of the congregation will represent Milestone at Natick Days, which takes place on the Natick Common on Saturday, Sept. 9, giving residents a chance to meet leadership and attendees. On Sunday, Sept. 10, Milestone’s one-year anniversary will be commemorated with a celebration at 217 West Central St.
For those who are interested in learning more about Milestone in a more formal way, “Discover Milestone” events are held on the second Sunday of every month, which provides a look into the church’s values and goals.
