Athletes from Millis, joined others from Ashland, Holliston, Medfield, and Medway competing in the fifth annual Special Olympics Massachusetts Five-Town School Day Games on April 7th. The evening before the games the school community honored the Olympians and their families with a Pre-game Dinner in the Clyde Brown Elementary cafeteria. The Carb-licious meal included pasta, chicken parmesan, meatballs/sauce, Caesar salad, garlic bread, cake and cookies for all.
Basketball was the theme of the games this year. Groups of athletes and volunteers participated in five basketball-related events in the decorated gym amidst the jubilant cheers and applause of the filled and decorated. The athletes who attended the basketball extravaganza included: David Cranton, David Shaw, Shawnmichaels Shaw, Robert Wright, Long Nguyen, Maura Fagan, Jamie Guindon, Eliese Spies, Jared Parker, Ryan Breslau, Madison LeBlanc, and Maggie LeBlanc. Millis also applauded the support offered by the Millis High School teammates, Molly Graham, Shawn Bradley, Danny Fallon, Jack Moriarty, Natalie Ferzoco and Megan Bickford.
Following the Special Olympics, teachers, Allison Sears, Lauren Scotland and Michael McKay accompanied the athletes to a celebratory lunch hosted by Millis Fire Department. Fire fighters and athletes recounted the days’ events, took pictures and reveled in the glow of success as they enjoyed a lunch of pizza and ice-cream.
Superintendent of Schools Nancy Gustafson observed that this is another example of how the Millis community supports its youngest citizens- our students.
