Issue Date:
July, 2018
Article Body:

Each year, the Morrill Memorial Library hosts a spring essay contest. This year’s topic was, “If you could dive into any book, what would you choose, and why?...and…”How would you describe a real or fictional library and what does that mean to you?” The event is open to all ages, third graders through high school and adults. Levels 1 and 2 (grades 3-4 and grades 5-8) addressed their favorite book and level 3 (grades 9-12 and adults) wrote about their favorite library. The contest is open to Norwood residents only for levels 1 and 2, and Norwood residents and residents from surrounding towns for level 3. The deadline was April 30.
Submissions comprised of an essay of 1,000 words or less. The winners were chosen from a panel of judges evaluated the essays according to five equally-weighted categories:
• Address Prompt (or Topic)
• Development & Organization
• Creativity
• Voice
• Craft
In addition to bragging rights, the first, second and third prizes are $35, $25 and $10 dollar gift cards to Barnes & Noble, in that order.
