What could be the perfect ending of a long weekend of delicious leftovers and mounds of new shopping lists? Norwood's Holiday Extravaganza, of course! This year, the holiday party has expanded its host and time of activities, and should now probably be called, Holiday Extra Extravanganza!
Each year, on Thanksgiving weekend, the Town Common bustles with holiday activity in one of Norwood's favorite annual traditions, The Holiday Extravaganza. The fun-filled (and FREE) family event will be held on Saturday, November 25, (Small Business Saturday), 11 a.m.-5 p.m. The day will include a prize competition, a storefront decorating contest, hayrides, entertainment, arts & crafts, holiday readings, face painting, barnyard animals, a parade, music, the Town tree lighting, and of course, a special visit from the jolly old man himself (with his wife)!
This day was always a special event, but the added activities make this a holiday celebration to entice all residents to get into the season's spirit. First, as the festivities were moved to Small Business Saturday, the Town is getting all Norwood businesses involved with its storefront decorating contest. Downtown stores and restaurants will be decked out and residents will judge the winner! Voting slips can be picked up at the common bandstand. Also, pick up a Small Business Saturday Prize Card at the Civic Center (during the week) or at any downtown business, enjoy lunch or dinner or patronize three downtown stores, have the cards initialed at each establishment, and submit to locations marked on the cards. Gift card prizes and more will be awarded! The Reindeer Dash is also new this year! Children will race around the town common and receive antlers as their prize!
For new Norwood residents not familiar with the event, this day is a must attend. It is a great way to end the holiday weekend and will surely turn into a yearly family outing!
Plan that holiday shopping and decorating around the Holiday Extravaganza for a community celebration the entire family will enjoy and remember for years to come!
