Shake off the “blues,” bring family and friends, and join the Dedham Choral Society at its holiday concert “Behold New Joy!” on Friday, December 7, 8 p.m., Holy Name Church, 1689 Centre St., West Roxbury. Norwood residents performing in this concert include, Elaine Benkoski, Mary Lynn Davis, Christine Diaz, Eileen Gibney, Edd and Gloria Lee, and Lindsay Trementozzi.
Celebrate the joy of the holiday season with a program of familiar carols in arrangements for chorus, brass and organ. The composers, alive and thriving, represent the best from both sides of the Atlantic: Bob Chilcott and Cecilia McDowall from England, Karl Jenkins from Wales, with Shawn Kirchner representing the US. The program will also include a commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the Armistice of 1918, with Chilcott’s “The Face of Peace,” set to words of the French poet Paul Eluard, who served in The Great War. And there will be three opportunities to sing along with the chorus, all in the magnificent acoustics of Holy Name Church. The chorus will also bid fond farewell to Darryl Hollister, DCS Assistant Director, who retires after 25 years of extraordinary musicianship with us. You won’t want to miss it! Program details are available at www.dedhamchoral.org/program/.
In its 63rd year and with over 80 members from more than 30 Boston-area, Maine and Rhode Island communities, DCS prides itself on being a “musical family.” We not only perform great choral works together but foster a supportive network of social relationships (including two marriages!). This fall we welcomed 9 new singers while valuing those long-term members of our inter-generational ensemble. Weekly rehearsals are held in Dedham’s historic Allin Congregational Church. Auditions for the spring concert in April will be held at Allin Church, 683 High St., Dedham, MA on January 7 and 8, 2019, starting at 7:00 p.m. For information or to schedule an audition, please email DCSAud4@gmail.com by January 3, 2019.
Concert tickets are available online at www.dedhamchoral.org/buy-tickets/, or at the door. Adults-$30/; students and seniors-$25; children (ages 5 to 12) $5.
