Oh What A Night!

Hundreds of TVs were tuned in to Norwood’s local broadcasting station on April 5, not to view a municipal meeting, but to participate and watch in the live action, glitzy costumes, and impressive choreography of the 11th Annual Dancing with the Norwood Stars!
In addition to the hundreds of people who purchased tickets to watch the event at the Four Points by Sheraton, there were three satellite locations where viewers watched the competition and submitted their votes for their favorite competitor: the Old Colonial Cafe, on Nahatan St., Lewis's Restaurant Bar & Grill, on Central St., and the Colonial House, on Savin Ave. For those who preferred to watch the action at home, Norwood's independent station, Norwood Community Media, broadcasted the event live on local access tv!
Congratulations to Michelle Sheehan as she was crowned the 2019 Champion! The Judges’ Choice winner that night was given to Kathy Curran, however, due to a tabulation error, the Circle of Hope (COA) announced the following day there were actually two Judges’ Choice winners and Jen Connolly was also given the award.
“In my book all 6 Dancers are winners working together for a great cause,” COH volunteer Kathy St. Cyr said. “COH is blessed to have such amazing people that step up to help neighbors in need.”
The dancers made a substantial commitment for the past three months practicing with their professional partners. In addition, they held their own fundraisers to raise money for the organization. For each dollar donated, they received a point which will be added to their dance scores. On performance night, two winners (this year three) were crowned: an Overall Winner for the person who raised the most money and the Judges Choice for the best single dance.
Since its inception, Dancing with the Norwood Stars has not only been the COH’s most popular event, but also the best source to raise funds for the organization. This year, approximately $140,000 was raised from dancer fundraisers, donations and ticket sales.
"The dancers raise money from people to donate, usually fundraisers, for example, dancing, raffles, auctions or a pancake breakfast," Norwood Circle of Hope member Kathy St. Cyr said. "It's up to their imagination."
the Norwood Circle of Hope Foundation is an all-volunteer organization that raises money for local residents who need financial assistance due to a catastrophic medical occurrence. The foundation was established in 1998 in memory of Michelle Kennedy, a young Norwood resident, who suffered with leukemia. During Michelle's battle the entire Norwood community, many of whom did not know Michelle, joined together and it is in that spirit that the Norwood Circle of Hope Foundation plans to continue.
