Ashland parents are invited to participate in a Community Book Read and Discussion on Tuesday, March 13, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., at the Ashland Public Library. Parents will join Warren and Mindess school teachers for a discussion of the book, “Grit: The Power of Passion and Perseverance,” by Angela Duckworth, described by the New York Times as a pioneering psychologist.
The book is the result of years of research from Duckworth. She studied countless successful people, who model both passion and perseverance, and the benefits and power it has in one’s life. Duckworth discusses the ability to accomplish goals in the face of challenges and the clear connections between hard work, resilience after failure, and long-term success.
The library is circulating extra copies of the book and audio book versions for participants in this event. The book read is part of the POWER Series, sponsored by Decisions at Every Turn Coalition and the Friends of the Ashland Public Library. POWER is an acronym for Prevention Outreach While Encouraging Resilience. For more information, email coalitioninfo@ashlanddecisions.org.
Claire Goss, an event organizer, said, “Building off last year’s great discussion of ‘The Gift of Failure,’ we chose the book ‘Grit” to extend the conversation about building resilience and present the clear benefits of fostering a ‘gritty’ attitude in our kids.”
