The first park field day celebration was held in 1901 and later named “Day in the Park”, with adults, children and civic groups becoming involved.
The 38th annual Hopedale “Day in the Park” continues to be carried on in 2017 by the increased number in membership to the Hopedale Cultural Council. As usual, many festivities will be held throughout the day to delight people of all ages. Reserve the date of September 16, 2017 for fun day.
An outstanding and popular highlight of the day will be the fine arts festival held at Hopedale Town Park, corner of Dutcher and Northrop Streets. Eligibility for entering the exhibit requires all work to be framed and wired (no string or tape). Work must be original and completed within the past three years by the exhibiting artist, 18 years or older. Framed work may not exceed thirty-two inches in width.
Registration hours for artists to deliver one to three pieces of artwork to the large white tent will be from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. Exhibition hours will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. during the Day in the Park.
A $20 entry fee, check made payable to Hopedale Cultural Council, for entering up to three pieces of framed and wired artwork, will be charged. Monetary prizes and ribbons will be awarded in four categories: Watercolors, Oils/Acrylics, Photography and Mixed Media (pastels, drawings, graphics, collage, fiber art, sculpture, giclee, computer generated/manipulated or monotypes, pen and ink).
The “Purchase Prize Competition” is a popular feature of the art exhibit. If desired, but not required, each artist may designate on their application, ONE of their entries for consideration of several $300 Purchase Prize Awards, which have been donated by several local sponsors. If entry is selected by the sponsor, the artist will receive the $300 award. In turn, the sponsor will OWN the artwork.
If eligible, one›s skills in the arts are more than welcome at Hopedale’s Day in the Park, “under the tent”. Interested artists may request an entry form for the art exhibit by contacting Joanne at 508-473-8753. “Doing something you love is never a waste of time”. For artists who wish to set up their own individual display in the park, please refer to the Hopedale Day in the Park website under “own set-up”. The Day in the Park is funded, in part, through a grant from the Massachusetts Cultural Council.
