Through the success of its recent Christmas tree pick-up fundraiser, Norfolk’s Troop 80 recently donated $500 to the Treehouse Foundation. The organization serves children in Massachusetts who are in the foster care program and in need of a piece of luggage for their personal belongings. In addition, Assistant Scout Master Peter E. O’Neil was able to negotiate a generous donation of over 200 additional pieces of luggage, duffel bags, and backpacks from Maria Potter of Samsonite Corporation in Mansfield. This donation has a retail value of over $5,000.
Martha Henry, owner of MJ Henry & Associates, Inc., a practice-based education and consulting firm specializing in child welfare, was honored to accept the generous gifts on behalf of the Treehouse Foundation from both Troop 80 and Samsonite Corporation.
Henry stated, “So many children and youth in our local communities will directly benefit from this initiative. It’s with the support from great companies like Samsonite that we are able to serve the most vulnerable members in our society.”
O’Neil added, “As scout leaders, we have encouraged our young men to adopt a purpose with their fundraising efforts, as well as to serve our community. This year they voted as a troop to support the Treehouse Foundation, and we are so proud of their efforts.”
