VFW Post 8507 of Holliston Celebrates 70th Anniversary

The Leonard B. Chesmore VFW Post 8507 of is celebrating its 70th anniversary this year with a variety of activities. During the month of September the Holliston Public Library will honor this organization by showing military related films on each of the four, Wednesday evenings at 7p.m. Scheduled are Born on the 4th of July on September 6, The Longest Day on the 13th, Saving Private Ryan on the 20th and Flags of our Fathers on the 27th. All are invited to attend and refreshments will be served. The library will also have a series of books whose stories are military or war related on display during the month of September too.
The Holliston VFW will also be present at “Celebrate Holliston” on September 16th by participating in its parade and having a booth at the Fair Grounds. American Flags will be given to all children, so pass by, learn about our organization’s activities and take a chance on winning a large screen TV set.
During the month of October, the Holliston VFW will have an interesting display in the window of Fiske’s General Store. Items will be those of VFW members as well as those of Post 8507 memorabilia.
The annual Veteran’s Day Luncheon, will be held on November 11th at the Town Hall and will include entertainment by Mel Simons, former WBZ Radio personality, He appears as part of the VFW 70th Anniversary Celebration.
The major VFW event of the year will be its banquet, to be held at noon, on Sunday, November 12th at the Pinecrest Golf Club in Holliston. All present members of Holliston Post 8507 and their guests, along with state and local officials, will receive invitations. The entertainer at the banquet will be Sgt. Daniel Clark, “The Singing Trooper.” As well as being a State Trooper, Dan served four years in the Marine Corp. He has appeared with the Boston “Pops,” on the Rosie O’Donnell Show, as well as with many other celebrities.
