It won the Pulitzer Prize the year it came out, in 2001, says Alecia Thomas, of the Washington Street Players. The group is presenting David Auburn’s Proof, a four-character drama that will star Chris Erath as “Robert,” Billy DelSesto as “Hal,” Alessandra Horton as “Claire,” and Jessica Depalo as “Catherine.” The play, which will be presented on May 4, 5 and 6 at 8 p.m. at Holliston Town Hall, is directed by Karen Dinehart and produced by Alecia Thomas.
“The play centers around the death of a famous super genius mathematician who died after a long illness, and his daughter, who has helped take care of him,” says Thomas. The mathematician appears in flashbacks in the play, she explains. “His daughter is going through his things and kind of reconciling his life his work and her relationship with him–it’s about this proof that he started to write, and so it’s the relationship between the father and the daughter and the struggle with her own genius and her father’s genius,” says Thomas.
The play, says Thomas, who has directed two Washington Street Players plays and co-directed another, offers “meat, dramatic roles, lots for the actors to bite into.”
“We feel like we’re ready for something with a small cast like this, something more intensive with the rehearsal process,” says Thomas. “It’s a great place for our actors to showcase their abilities on stage.”
