iGen Generation Revealed: Community Book Read and Discussion

Ashland parents are invited to participate in a Community Book Read and Discussion on Tuesday, March 26, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., at the Ashland Public Library. Parents will join staff from Ashland Public Schools for a discussion of a book by Jean Twenge, iGen: Why Today’s Super-Connected Kids Are Growing Up Less Rebellious, More Tolerant, Less Happy—and Completely Unprepared for Adulthood—and What That Means for the Rest of Us.
Twenge bases the conclusions in her book on an in-depth analysis of generational data and focuses on how the changes in technology in the last 10 years have affected today’s youth. This “iGen” generation is the first generation to spend their entire adolescence on smartphones.
An Community Book Read organizer, Claire Goss, said, “We chose the book iGen hoping to start a community conversation about our kids’ lives as consumers of technology and better understand how to parent and teach anyone born between 1995-2012.”
The library is circulating extra copies of the book and audio book versions for participants in this event. The book read is part of the POWER series, sponsored by the Decisions at Every Turn Coalition and the Friends of the Ashland Public Library.
