Article Body:

GreenUp Ashland will hold its annual clean-up-the-town event to celebrate Earth Day on Saturday May 4, 9 a.m. to noon (rain date, Sunday, May 5). Residents of all ages and businesses and organizations are invited to participate. Volunteers will clean up neighborhoods and parks and along streets and rivers. Residents will have the weekend—not just Saturday morning—to clean up the area for which they register.

Two Ways to Register: Residents may register at Stone Park Pavilion or in advance on the website, www.greenupashland.org.
Wear Proper Attire: Participants should bring work gloves and water and wear sturdy shoes and bright colored clothing for safety. If you are cleaning up on a busy street, town owned vests and orange cones are available to borrow. Bags that are filled with rubbish and roadside litter may be left curbside for pickup by Ashland Department of Public Works.
Businesses Can Help: GreenUp Ashland is also asking local businesses to get involved by picking up trash in the areas around their establishments on May 4 or on the days prior to the event. Collection bags can be picked up before the event at the Board of Health in Town Hall.
For more information, email infogreenupashland.org or visit www.greenupashland.org and www.facebook.com/GreenUpAshland. To get involved with planning and implementation for GreenUp Ashland, call the Ashland Board of Health, 508 881-0100, ext. 7128 or 7922 for Health Agent Mark Oram. GreenUp committee members are: Lusine Baghsarian, Karyn Dann, Kate D’Angelo, Mark Oram, Lisa Uglialoro and Jeanne Walker.
The committee works to promote a litter-free environment and encourage stewardship of Ashland’s lands and waterways.
Adopt a Street: Residents may also adopt a street, May through October. Sign up for the Adopt a Street program on www.greenupashland.org.
Last year the GreenUp Committee handed out 120 trash bags; there were nearly 100 individuals and several groups cleaning up 62 locations in town. GreenUp Ashland hopes to increase these numbers this year.
