The Market of Hope (MOH) and St. Timothy’s Church are teaming up again this year to host a charity market on Saturday, Oct. 19, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. This is the fourth visit this traveling market has visited Norwood and offers the opportunity for local residents to purchase one of a kind items handmade from over 20 countries.
The MOH was initiated as a one-time Christmas shopping event in Texas in 2013 where $18,000 was raised through shopping sales. With that financial success and positive consumer response, it has now grown with pop-up markets throughout the country. Proceeds from the markets assist people out of poverty and victims of economic slavery and human trafficking by providing income, education, training, financial investment opportunities.
Norwood’s market was spearheaded by St. Timothy parishioner and local resident Toni Eosco when she was inspired at the Texas marketplace.
“I was so impressed by the beauty and quality of the products and how Market of Hope helps break the chains of poverty by providing individuals with a dignified way to earn a living,” Eosco said. “We look forward to bringing this wonderful market to our local community again this year. We encourage shoppers to come by and see the many unique and well-made products for themselves.”
An example of the variety of items sold at the MOH Market include handcrafted jewelry, hand sewn bags and wallets, fair trade Ugandan coffee, organic home textiles, hand-poured natural body care products, African kitchen items, children’s toys from many parts of the globe, and much more.
The event is a wonderful outdoor bazaar where shoppers can relax and browse the tables for the perfect gift or unique item everyone will admire. This will be held rain or shine, and in the case of inclement weather, it will be held in the church hall. There will also be coffee, cider, and baked goods for sale to enjoy while you shop. Parking and admission is free and is open to the public.
