Restaurants are coming! The town’s economic development office announced recently that Ashland will have three new restaurants. All three are taking advantage of the town’s business incentive program, according to Economic Development Director Beth Reynolds. “The business incentive program has been a great tool to use to incentivize businesses in choosing Ashland,” she said.
Dulce D Leche, 200 Homer Ave.,Bldg. 1, opened its doors in early October to offer gelato, chocolates, Paninis, croissants, specialty cakes, breads and coffee. In addition, they will offer daily specials and coolers filled with meals to go, perfect for the busy lifestyle that wants a home-cooked, hot meal at the end of the day. Dulce D Leche opened its first location in Framingham in May, 2016, and has been a staple at the Ashland Farmers Market for many years.
“Dulce D Leche’s owners, Jules Remenar and Sam Stavar, have worked tirelessly to create an amazing commercial kitchen, have thought of every last detail, investing a great deal of their own personal money,” Reynolds said. “They will manufacture their products from their Ashland location as well as running a retail shop. They offer a private meeting room for any small function. They are a wonderful permanent addition to Ashland, and we are thrilled to have them here!”
In December Mauro’s Village Café in Southborough will open a second location, 2Mauro’s Café on West Union Street (Rt. 135), where Papa Gino’s used to be. They will serve breakfast and lunch. “We are thrilled to welcome this business to Ashland as they create a warm, family-friendly restaurant with home-made recipes and fresh ingredients. We have no doubt it will be a huge success!” Reynolds said.
The third establishment, Mazi Restaurant, will open in late winter or early spring of 2020. “The new restaurant will be an American casual dining experience with a Greek twist to incorporate the expertise of the two brothers-in-law owners,” Reynolds said. “Mazi is a family-owned business that will include an outdoor patio and a comfortable dining room and bar,” Reynolds said. Mazi will be located at 320 Pond St. (Rt. 126).
What is the Ashland Business Incentive Program?
At the May 2018 town meeting, residents voted to fund and create a business incentive program. The program consists of three separate tracks: 1) A sign and facade grant program, 2) An amenities financing program, and 3) A no-interest loan fund, supported by an initial $40,000 financial commitment by Needham Bank.
