Two King Philip Regional High School seniors were recognized as King Philip Regional High School's 2020 Scholar Athletes.
Seniors Samantha Robison and John Cannon were selected by Athletic Director Gary Brown and Principal Lisa Mobley as the 2020 Scholar Athletes for their success in academics and athletics.
Each year the Hockomock League honors 24 Scholar Athletes from the 12 participating districts at the Hockomock League’s annual Scholar Athlete Dinner. This year, the dinner is scheduled for May 7, but may change due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In the wake of these circumstances, Athletic Director Brown and Principal Mobley surprised Robison and Cannon at their houses to inform them that they had been chosen by administrators for the Scholar Athlete Awards.
"It is an honor for us to surprise these two well-deserving athletes during these challenging times," said Athletic Director Brown. "I didn't want to let the opportunity pass to recognize all of their accomplishments and let them know how proud we are of them."
Robison played field hockey, ice hockey and participated in track and field. She was a captain on all three teams. Cannon is the captain of the tennis team.
Robison will be attending Worcester Polytechnic Institute to play field hockey and study biomedical engineering. Cannon is currently deciding between Rice University and Cornell University's College of Engineering, where he will study aerospace and mechanical engineering.
"We are extremely proud of these two students and felt that they deserved to be recognized, no matter what the circumstances are," said Principal Mobley. "They have both shown a tremendous amount of dedication to their academics while excelling in sports and other extracurricular activities. They each have very bright futures ahead."
