Programs and Events for January:
Effective Communication Strategies, an education program by the Alzheimer’s Association Communication is more than just talking and listening – it’s also about sending and receiving messages through attitude, tone of voice, facial expressions and body language. As people with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias progress in their journey and the ability to use words is lost, families need new ways to connect. Join us to explore how communication takes place when someone has Alzheimer’s, learn to decode the verbal and behavioral messages delivered by someone with dementia, and identify strategies to help you connect and communicate at each stage of the disease. Please join us for this worthwhile educational presentation on Friday, January 13that 11:00 in room 18 at the Veterans Memorial Building, Millis MA.
Classic Country with Keith Snow Keith will be performing at the Center on Wednesday, January 18th at noon. We will be playing a couple of games of corn hole at 11 followed by Keith’s performance and chili cheese dogs. There is a $3.00 charge for the chili cheese dog lunch. Please call ahead and make your reservation, so we may plan accordingly.
Transportation is one of the key elements that the COA has to offer. We are available to take you to local and Boston bound medical appointments. We also offer grocery shopping on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of the month. The fees are $2 in town, $3 Bellingham, $5 Natick/ Newton, and $25 (+parking and tolls) Boston. Medical appointments always take priority over grocery or other non-essential trips. But we will make arrangements to get you where you need to be as soon as possible. Please call Maureen at 376-7051 for more information.
Fuel Assistance Applications are available at the Center. There are various requirements for different situations, so we strongly urge you to call the Center before you stop by so we may determine what documentation you will need to provide. After filling out the application you will be required to have a sit down meeting with our Outreach worker Carol to ensure you have the proper documentation. You must make an appointment for that meeting. Some appointments may take up to an hour, so please plan accordingly.
Computer Tutoring Every Tuesday from 10-12. Bob has an extensive background with computers and can help anyone regardless of their computer expertise. At this time Bob will be offering one on one tutoring. Please call the Center for an appointment.
Openings ~ Supportive Day Group This is a specifically designed program for elders or disabled individuals who are suffering from mild to moderate cognitive difficulties or who cannot stay at home alone during the day. Call Patty at 376-7051 for more information.
