On the evening of Saturday, Jan. 28, a line of patrons nearly extended out the front door of The Center for Arts in Natick (TCAN). All were waiting patiently to be seated for “West Side Story,” the premier film showing in the center’s new 120-seat movie theater.
To finance the renovations, TCAN turned to crowdfunding. Their Kickstarter campaign raised $103,420 from 543 backers interested in helping the nonprofit add a new feature, the movie theater, for the Natick community to enjoy.
Marketing and Development Coordinator Kerry Fraser filmed the ribbon-cutting ceremony and entry of guests on Facebook Live. “This theater has been a long time in the making, and it’s been amazing to see the community rally to support the project and watch it all come together,” she said.
After patrons settled in to the new space with snacks and drinks in hand, Executive Director David Lavalley thanked the audience and delivered introductory comments.
“I’m very interested to know your feedback on the experience, about any of it – the taste of the popcorn, the sight lines, the feeling of the seats, the volume level – everything,” Lavalley said.
