Spring will rev into Holliston this year as the HBA Springfest adds a Car Show feature to take place from 12-3 p.m. in the parking lot behind the Holliston Fire Department. Event organizer Craig Fitzgerald, who has lived in Holliston with his wife, Lisa Whelan and their two children, hopes to feature a cross section of vehicles in this spring show.
“We’ve probably got room for about 20 cars back there,” says Fitzgerald, an editor for Gatehouse Media’s bestride.com and former editor for eight years of Hemming’s Motor News, a 60-year-old Vermont publication considered, he says the “Bible” of old car hobby. Fitzgerald’s 22-year history in the business began as a freelancer for The Boston Globe’s automotive section.
Fitzgerald says he’s not really sure where his interest in cars came from, as his Dad “was not a real car guy,” but what keeps him interested, he says, more than the cars, is the “kind of community. People there build friendships on nothing else than they like Camaros. I wouldn’t do this if it wasn’t for that. It’s a lot of fun to meet up with other folks.”
The event will feature a number of different motor vehicles, including the first fire engine from the town of Holliston, as well as a few microcars, cars from the Post WWII period to the late 60s.
“This is the first we’ve done it, and I’m actively soliciting people to bring cars,” says Fitzgerald. If you have a car to feature, contact Fitzgerald at (802) 342-3999.
