Kamitian Field Project: Phase II Update

Article Body:

The Holliston Athletic Boosters Association (HABA) would like to take this opportunity to thank recent donors to the Kamitian Field Complex. Since our opening celebration in September of 2014, there have been many community volunteers who have made it possible to prepare for Phase II of the project, the completion of onsite bathrooms. Phase II is now in the hands of the Holliston Public Schools as per the original agreement made with the School Committee in 2013.
This past summer, HABA was busy coordinating the installation of a tight tank and bringing running water to the concession stand. This portion of the project started later than we had hoped because the process of receiving local permits to install a tight tank was more complicated and involved than we had expected. The tight tank itself was a joint purchase by HABA and Holliston Public Schools. The real stars of the show were the local trades who donated time and materials. Mayo Industries dug the hole and installed the tank, Dover Electric did the electrical work and alarm involved in the tank installation and Jason Green Plumbing & Heating was a grand donor of time and materials for all the connection area pipes, sinks, hot water tank, faucets, drains and grease trap needed to get the concession stand fully functional.
After some minor vandalism on a warm June night last year, HABA had motion sensor lights installed as well as key entry deadlocks, just to be safe. We continue to make improvements as we live in the space. Like any new home or office, you don’t know what you need until you spend time there.
The Spirit Wear Store, located in the tunnel, was completely painted on the interior in HHS colors by TLC Painting. The tunnel walls were also decked out in red, white and black stripes by parent volunteers.
The two ticket windows have been waiting to be finished for over two years now. HABA just wasn’t sure what type of setup would be best, so we waited to make the right choice. After determining the best solution, Holliston Glass and Mirror and K&C Windows in Franklin offered to custom make and install them at no cost. The owners of both companies are HHS alumni of the football team.
Other donations since our grand opening ceremony in September 2016 include fencing repairs and additions by Mayo Fence, Star Sign made a protective case for the Tim Time Clock, and cash donations by Mr. Bedros Kamitian, the Mayo Family and the Parents of the Class of 2016 All-Night Grad Party.
As with any major project, HABA still has a punch list. One of the counter tops in the kitchen needs to be remade after necessary changes due to the placement of the grease trap, a drain access hole needs to be filled with several bags of cement and the mop sink needs to be installed. A HABA parent who was a painter in his younger years, has graciously volunteered to paint the ceiling of the tunnel and concession area as the temperatures warm up this spring.
We are happy to report that the only major item on the “to do” list is the completion of the bathrooms which is in the capable hands of the school department. We look forward to continuing to be of assistance to our public schools as they take the next steps necessary to complete Phase II, while HABA focuses on its Phase I punch list so that together we can finish up this important project which will serve as a much needed resource for Holliston for years to come.
