Issue Date:
June, 2017
Article Body:

Occupy Natick invites the public to a free screening and discussion of the film, Queen of the Sun: What Are the Bees Telling Us?, on Monday, June 19, 7 to 9 pm at Sherrill Hall, 39 East Central St. (rear of St. Paul’s Church; entrance in far corner of Town Hall parking lot). There is ample parking in St. Paul’s/municipal lot. Sherrill Hall is handicapped-accessible. Light refreshments will be served.
Fruits and most other produce require pollinators. We rely on honey bees, native bees, butterflies and wasps to pollinate our crops. In the quest for corporate profits, monoculture, the over use of pesticides, and other corporate indifference to the balance of nature, have driven our bee population almost to destruction.
The film investigates multiple aspects of the recent bee epidemic colony collapse disorder. It also explores the historical and contemporary relationship between bees and humans. The film describes 10,000 years of beekeeping, illuminating the deep link between humans and bees and how that historic and sacred relationship has been lost due to highly mechanized industrial practices.
Occupy Natick is showing this film--the last of the season--as part of its monthly “What Went Wrong” film and discussion series, exploring important issues that help educate and inform citizens.
Occupy Natick is a group of Metrowest citizens, who, inspired by the original Occupy Wall Street protests, engage in activities and events that educate and inform citizens about areas of concern related to the undue influence of money in politics and policy making. Citizens’ rights, corporations’ excessive power, our society’s racism and xenophobia, as well as climate change and pollution are some of the topics that are addressed.
Events are free to the public, and all are invited to come and participate in the discussions. For a meeting schedule and more information, visit occupynatick.org.
