The Norwood Annual Holiday House Tour returns again for its 12th season providing a great retreat for residents from the bustle of the holiday season. This year, in addition to sharing fresh, ornamental decorating ideas, the tour celebrates Norwood residents who have served in the military. The self-guided tour will be held on Sunday, December 3, 2-4 p.m., rain or shine. The afternoon begins at Norwood Town Hall, and will include both Norwood landmarks and private homes, all decked out for the holiday season.
This year's tour includes Memorial Hall, located inside Norwood Town Hall. Within its great walls are commemorations listing the names of Norwood veterans, from colonial times to more recent generations. In addition, The Day House will host a Patriotic Christmas as part of their 100 year anniversary of the United States entry into World War I. The Norwood Historical Society will share its Revolutionary War, Civil War and World War II collections and host an interactive contest with the chance to win a door prize!
The festive event will conclude with a reception at 4 p.m., at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Hall, 193 Dean St. Veterans are warmly invited to partake in the celebrations sponsored by the Andrew and Ernest J. Boch Fund and donations from Wegmans, in Westwood.
This year's Holiday House Tour is sponsored by the Norwood Historical Society in partnership with the Norwood Junior Woman's Club and the Rotary Club of Norwood.
This annual community event raises money for the on-going restoration of the F. Holland Day House, the headquarters for the Norwood Historical Society and the town’s first building to be listed on the National Registry of Historical Places. Previous house tours have raised nearly $50,000 which contribute to the Day House exterior repairs. These restorations ensure the preservation of Norwood's unique historical gem, including its spectacular leaded windows and custom-designed fireplaces.
Advance tickets are currently on sale for $20, at Lisbeth's Custom Drapery, at 95 Central St., Tuesday-Friday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Saturdays, 10 a.m.-1 p.m., and through the Norwood Historical Society website, at www.norwoodhistoricalsociety.org.
