Franklin Knights of Columbus Thanksgiving Pie Sale Taking Orders

The Knights of Columbus Sacred Heart Council 1847 in Franklin’s first ever Annual Thanksgiving Pie Sale is not just for members of St. Mary’s Church, it’s for everyone in Franklin.

“We’re going to take orders from outside,” says Lane, “The only thing they’ll have to do is pick them up on November 20th. They can call me weeknights, and we’ll make sure they get an order form to fill out and sign. We can actually email an order form or they can visit our website (https://kofc1847.org/).”
For $15 per pie, order a high-quality, freshly-baked Mile-High Apple, Blueberry, Pumpkin or Pecan pie from the famous Montilio’s Bakery for your Thanksgiving table. Pick up your Thanksgiving pie orders at the front of the church on Tuesday, November 20, 2018, from 3-6 p.m. All proceeds support the ongoing charitable efforts of the Knights of Columbus.
The Knights will also be accepting Thanksgiving pie orders in the back of the Church after all Masses on Saturday, November 3, 2018 and Sunday, November 4, 2018 after all Masses. Order forms will be available at the entrances of the Church. We will collect your Thanksgiving Pie orders and payment after Masses on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at the 4 p.m. Mass and after ALL the Sunday, November 11, 2018 Masses. Orders must be completed by November 11th.
Lane explains that the Franklin group has modeled its pie fundraiser after one that’s been done by the Knights of Columbus in Mansfield.
“They’ve been doing it for 40 years and have a gentleman named Brian Healey, the coordinator for it. He has spent tremendous hours and time with the documentation, letters going to Montilio’s the supplier – we even have certificates made to thank the supplier.” Lane explains that members of the Catholic men’s’ charitable group volunteer to box, string and label the pies, working with Montilio’s staff.
The four flavors available were carefully chosen due to their popularity, says Lane.
“People are really focused on flavors at Thanksgiving,” says Lane. Pecan, for example, was very popular, but despite pecans being expensive, “Montilio’s is going to sacrifice a lot of margin just to provide the pies to us. The cost on pecan is far above (our price), but they do it as kind of a charity thing,” says Lane.
You don’t have to just purchase a pie for yourself. You can use this great deal on bakery-quality pies to donate pies to the Franklin Senior Center. The Franklin Knights chose to work with this charity, Lane says, because “the Franklin Senior Center is one of our leading senior facilities, and we have so many seniors in Franklin. It’s really popular and great.”
The Knights of Columbus in Franklin are a constant presence in the town.
“We just (participated in) the Franklin Downtown Partnership Harvest Festival,” says Lane, “and we just finished our Tootsie Roll drive.” The Knights are active volunteers for the St. Vincent de Paul Walk for the Poor each September, sponsor memorial Masses for families of passed Knights of Columbus members, will hold a movie “Knight” for children on November 23, 2018, and sponsor an Annual Free Throw Basketball Shooting Contest at the Hockomock YMCA (this year’s will take place on January 19, 2019). In December, the Knights will man a table outside Franklin’s Stop & Shop to run a gift card drive for St. Mary’s Church’s St. Vincent de Paul Society.
